Theatre FrontWelcome to The Leatherhead Theatre

I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Artistic Director of The Leatherhead Theatre and welcome you to our 2008 Autumn/Winter Season.

The Thorndike Theatre has been described as “the jewel in Leatherhead’s crown.”  From its birth as “The Leatherhead Theatre” in the High Street in 1951, it was way ahead of its time in realizing that a venue needs to place itself at the heart of its community; to be a vital social centre and not just a place where plays happen.

Since 2001, The Leatherhead Theatre has been under the careful and caring stewardship of the Leatherhead Revival Trust and has grown from strength of strength.  Because of this, we now have a great opportunity to build on the proud heritage of what was a visionary venue of the last century and make it, not only a thriving and relevant one for the 21st century, but also a community centre with strong social beliefs that can define the character and identity of Leatherhead itself.

Simon FielderWith Inclusion, Education, Entertainment and Excellence as our guiding principles we are steadily re-establishing this Theatre and Arts Centre at the heart of Leatherhead life and broadening its appeal to a Surrey-wide audience.  We are building strong links with our education, business and residential communities and ensuring that they realise that this is their theatre and that we are here to provide an invaluable resource to enrich all areas of their lives.

I believe this forthcoming season offers a particularly wide range of shows and we are pleased to welcome some new productions to The Leatherhead Theatre for the first time, giving you the best possible variety.

Annie'sWe are also pleased to announce much-loved Leatherhead teashop and local caterer ANNIE’S will be joining us this season, offering you a fine selection of hot and cold food, served from our Ground Floor café.  So you can now be assured of a relaxing pre-show meal or refreshment before curtain-up!

We have many exciting plans for the Theatre, both on-and-off stage and hope that, over the next few months and, indeed, years, we can welcome you all back through our doors, to be part of the resurgence of this wonderful venue.
